Every Game Releasing On Google Stadia At Launch

Google Stadia is launching in November and a list of games that will be available for the service after it launches has been released by Google.

  • by Scott Baird
  • Jul 02, 2019

Google will have several games on Stadia when the platform launches later this year, and we’ve compiled a list of all of those launch titles, assuming that there aren’t any changes prior to Stadia’s release.

Google Stadia is entering the video game streaming market, with the idea that all of the hard work of the hardware will be done on the server end, which means that games can run on high-performance settings on any device. The caveat is that the player needs to have access to a fast Internet connection in order for it to work.

The Google Stadia platform will launch in November 2019 and Google has already listed a number of games that will be available on the service at launch. Here’s all of them so far:

It’s possible that at least two of the games on the list won’t be ready for the November launch date. Baldur’s Gate III was revealed at the Google Stadia Connect event, but it currently has no set release date. The developers danced around the question when it was brought up at E3, which suggests that it won’t be ready in time for November. There are also doubts concerning Metro Exodus, as the game has a one-year exclusivity deal with the Epic Store that might prevent it from coming to the service at launch.

Gylt is the only Google Stadia exclusive game that will release at launch, with another exclusive title, called Get Packed, due to be released in 2020. All of the other games on the list are available to purchase on other systems and the player will still be expected to pay full price for them at launch.

The most interesting names on the list in terms of determining how well the Google Stadia platform will work are Mortal Kombat 11, Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid, Samura Shodown, and The Elder Scrolls Online. The genre of video game that suffers the most from lag issues in online matches is fighting games, due to how they rely on precise timing at the competitive level. Fighting games will be a major test for the Google Stadia platform, as any consistent issues regarding input delay or lag would make it unsuitable for that genre. The Elder Scrolls Online is the only MMO available for the Google Stadia platform at launch and it will be interesting to see how well it works, especially as the promised speed of the Stadia platform could be greatly beneficial to that genre. It was mentioned during the Google Stadia GDC 2019 event that the service could handle a battle royale game with a thousand players, which makes us wonder what it could do for an MMO?

The only way to play games on Google Stadia in 2019 is by purchasing the $130 Founders Edition, which comes with a controller, a Chromecast Ultra, three months of Pro service, and a free copy of Destiny 2: The Collection, which means that this is the one game that all Stadia subscribers will have at launch. It has been revealed that there won’t be a beta test for Google Stadia, which means that Destiny 2 is going to act as the benchmark for a lot of stress tests when the service becomes available in November.

There’s a lot of Tomb Raider on day one

Google’s game streaming platform, Stadia, will launch on Nov. 19, and early adopters will get access to 12 games on launch day. Stadia’s launch lineup will include one platform exclusive — surreal fantasy adventure Gylt from Tequila Works — and the recently released Windows PC version of Red Dead Redemption 2.

But the launch games for Stadia consists mainly of older PC games, including Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Destiny 2, and three Tomb Raider titles. Here’s the day-one Stadia game lineup, from Google:

  • Assassin’s Creed Odyssey
  • Destiny 2: The Collection
  • Gylt
  • Just Dance 2020
  • Kine
  • Mortal Kombat 11
  • Red Dead Redemption 2
  • Rise of the Tomb Ra >Google also confirmed 14 additional titles coming to Stadia by the end of 2019. Here’s what else early adopters can expect this year (minus, of course, Doom Eternal, which was previously expected at Stadia’s launch but was recently delayed to March 2020):

  • Attack on Titan 2: Final Battle
  • Borderlands 3
  • Darks >Stadia will be available in 14 countries at launch. The Stadia Founder’s Edition will include a Chromecast Ultra, which supports 4K gameplay; a limited-edition “midnight blue” controller; a three-month Stadia Pro subscription, plus one voucher to give the same subscription to a friend; and the ability to reserve a Stadia username early, which is tied to the user’s Google account. The Founder’s Edition will launch in United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and Finland. It retails for $129.99 in the United States.

Google Stadia launch games include The Division 2, Destiny 2, Elder Scrolls MMO

Later this year, Google is launching the cloud gaming platform Stadia and shaking up the home console market. Google has slowly rolled out info on how it could work and, now, set the stage for Stadia’s launch with pricing info, game reveals like Destiny 2 and The Elder Scrolls Online, and more ahead of E3 2019.

The first game revealed was Larian Studios’ Baldur’s Gate 3 and the studio’s founder Swen Vincke shared that the development team had to triple its size to work on it. Larian elevated its profile with the tactical RPGs Divinity: Original Sin and Original Sin 2 and get a chance to take major steps forward by handling the long-awaited sequel to a beloved franchise. Baldur’s Gate 3 is also notable because it shows that Stadia is taking advantage of the recent resurgence of classic RPGs and tactical RPGs coming to home consoles. Larian Studios and Pillars of Eternity creator Obsidian have been instrumental in this and old-school classics like Baldur’s Gate and Planescape: Torment are being ported to PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One by developer Beamdog. Baldur’s Gate 3’s release date wasn’t revealed.

The next title revealed was a Google Stadia version of the recently announced Ghost Recon Breakpoint. No new information on the game itself was shown, but the reveal did end with a tease of four-player cooperative play powered by the stream connect feature. This feature allows for split-screen gaming with online companions, emulating local co-op play. The Ghost Recon Breakpoint trailer was immediately followed by the announcement of Gylt, a stealth horror game. That was followed by the top-down title Get Packed, which features four-player gameplay in a chaotic physics sandbox.

The Division 2 is also going to be one of Google Stadia’s launch titles, giving the platform a second multiplayer loot shooter alongside Destiny 2, which was confirmed as a launch title near the end of the stream. Google Stadia Pro subscribers will get Destiny 2: The Collection, which includes the base game, all previous expansions including Forsaken, the new Shadowkeep expansion, and the annual pass for that expansion.

There were additional games revealed in a montage at the end of the stream and in a splash page listing devs and publishers contributing to Stadia:

    • Doom Eternal
    • The Crew 2
    • Samurai Showdown
    • Grid
    • NBA 2K
    • Wolfenstein Youngblood
    • The Elder Scrolls Online
    • Metro Exodus
    • Thumper
    • Just Dance
    • Dragonball Xenoverse 2
    • Rage 2
    • Assassin’s Creed Odyssey
    • Power Rangers
    • Rise of the Tomb Raider
    • Trials Rising
    • Farming Simulator
    • Final Fantasy XV
    • Shadow of the Tomb Raider

Access to Google Stadia is handled a couple of ways, and there’s a founder’s pack for the platform that will include a handful of items to get players started. Google Stadia launches in fall 2019, so there is still a lot of time left for additional launch announcements.

I just tried to watch the video and it just spun and didn’t buffer.

    I’m not even fucking kidding.

I’m trying to think of something sarcastic to say to express how little interest I have in Google Stadia, but I’m coming up blank.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world’s first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.

So here’s what irks me more than I think it probably should about Stadia:

All the marketing for Stadia, and all the supporters saying «you won’t need to buy a console» as one of the key selling points of the service — and here it is on launch day and you can’t even sign up for Stadia Pro (give them money) or buy games (give them money) unless you buy previously bought a hardware package directly from Google for $129. Let’s pretend I wanted to just play this on my PC in my Chrome browser (like the Assassin’s Creed demo) and wanted to give Google $60 to play Red Dead 2. I literally have everything I need to make this happen, credit card in hand, and Google’s like «nope sorry».

I understand that, supposedly, it won’t always be this way. But I’m literally their target audience (Youtube Premium subscriber, spend lots of cash on games on the Play Store, buy most of my TV through Google Play, have an Android phone and Android TV box) and they still want me to buy their stupid Chromecast Ultra (which I would never use) and controller (which I would never use) to have the OPPORTUNITY to buy games from them at full price and stream them?

    Shit’s stupid. Fuck these guys.

Yeah, eventually that’ll change, but that’s currently the case. People are currently waiting for a box to arrive in the mail so they can try this «gaming without a box».

Google seems so out of touch with what gamers want, I can’t see this succeeding. But, then again, I can’t understand the appeal of the most successful mobile games either. We may just be the wrong audience.
